The M-2 was introduced as a modernisation of the ageing M-1. The M-2 features a different faceform, based somewhat on the British SR6 using the same nosecup and deflector system, removing some of the excess bulge that is the hallmark of the M9A1 gas mask and its copies. It also feeds the more standard 40mm threaded filters, allowing for standardization. The exhale valve is protected by a plastic housing piece, which replaces the rubber housing of the M-1 mask. The lense retainers have been upgraded with a screw and plastic clamp system, but retain the same shape as the previous M1 masks.
M2 F V is the latest voice transmiting, protective gas mask that is currently in use by special forces. Made for police special forces and some counter-terrorist units in the army. It is the improved version of the previous M2 model, which has a detachable drinking tube that fits on the canteen from the M69 military mess kit.
The M-2 has three sizes: M (Serbian: Mala - "Small"), S (Serbian: Srednja - "Medium"), V (Serbian: Velika - "Large"). The size is indicated above the inlet on the outside of the mask, and on the carrier.
