U.S. Navy Hand Projector MK-4 Flare Gun

This hand projector was used into the early 1960s by a US Navy Underwater Demolition Team for signaling purposes until the supply of proprietary cartridges finally ran out. USN Hand Projector MK-4 was used aboard American naval vessels for individuals to send distress signals. It fires a specialized cartridge, the MK-11 Flare, no longer in production. A single round is inserted into the barrel, and barrel fits by bayonet plug projection into a breech lock. Has a safety device to prevent accidental discharge. Cartridges are obtainable but scarce. Will not fire standard shotgun shells of any type.
