The Highway of Heroes sign first appeared on the Macdonald-Cartier Highway 401 in 2007.  Canada is the only country in the world that repatriates all their fallen to the same location (Trenton Air Base) then transport the fallen to the Toronto Coroner's office. Since 2002 supporters of our Canadian Troops have been lining the route along the highway on overpasses to fly a flag and show their support as a procession of vehicles passes by with the fallen that have been repatriated to Canada.
