Thunderflashes are handheld pyrotechnic devices used in military training to safely simulate the sound, flash, and concussion of real battlefield explosions. They are essential tools for habituating soldiers to the chaos of combat without the lethal danger of fragmentation explosives. This transport and storage crate would have held 8 simulation cylinders for use in such training. The 10/44 would have been the production date for October of 1944 in regards to the training cylinders.
