This item is patterned after the model that came into service aboard U.S. Navy ships prior to the outbreak of the Civil War. This sword measures 31 1/2" in length and features a 25 1/2" blade constructed from high carbon steel. Additional features are a wire wrapped handle, an enlarged brass basket guard which afforded greater hand protection than previous models, and a leather wrapped sheath.
