Totally inert example of a No. 36M MkI Grenade, cutaway and painted for training. This type was known as the "Mesopotamian" variant due to its shellac-coating which was designed to keep moisture and humidity out of the detonator's fuse. The No. 36M was the British army's standard hand-grenade during WWII, and long afterwards. This example was fully cleaned and turned into a training aid, cut through from top to bottom, right through the base plug. It is totally inert, cannot be converted to an explosive devise.

The remaining half  of the bottom plug reads No. 36M MkI. and the hole is correctly threaded for the attachment of a base plate, which would allow it to be used with a rifle mounted grenade discharger.

A great display piece from WWII!
