This original magnificent sword can be seen in Madrid at the Institute del Conde de Valencia de Don Juan and is referenced in many of Ewart Oakeshott’s books as a supreme example of a Type XII sword. He aptly describes it as being “Sweet and well-balanced in the hand, as it is beautifully proportioned.”

The Santa Casilda's pommel has a red and black wave pattern leather inset. The parts are intricately made from cast brass with an antique finish. Their is Latin script engraved around the pommel which reads “AVE MARIA PLENA GRATIA” translating to “Hail Mary, full of grace” while the #cross guard is adorned with Spanish script “DIOS ES VINCENTOR EN TOD” one side and “O DIOS ES VINCENTOR EN TODO A” on the other. This translates to “God is conqueror in all” and “God is conqueror of everything”.

The tough, 1085 high carbon steel blade has a full tang and is fully tempered, then peened over the pommel. This is an authentic method for assembling a medieval sword of this era. The grip is made from wood then covered in rich red leather. It is completed with cross-hatched black leather strips and brass tacks for a unerring grip. This piece includes a heavy grade scabbard and custom long belt set with solid antiqued metal fittings.
