This is a rare M1A2 grenade adapter for launching hand held grenades off US GI grenade launchers for Garand, Springfield and also many European rifles. It has three prongs, a base cup to secure the grenade, and slotted tailfins. It was an improved version of the M1A1 with a reinforced tube and redesigned tailfins. The grenade adapter has an olive drab painted, sheet metal construction with official markings identifying the model and lot number.
