This knife was originally designed and produced by the Ek Commando Knife Company that was sold to Blackjack Knives in the mid-1990’s. Blackjack continued production of the knife under the Ek name with the same design features, with manufacture taking place in Effingham IL. This piece is vintage mid-1990’s and was made in Effingham as indicated by “Effingham” etched on the blade. The meticulous craftsmanship and fine edge together with the all-American spirit of the Bowie design make this knife worthy of a place in your collection or can even be used every day if you choose.

The Ek #5 Series was developed to provide a deluxe Bowie-style “all-purpose” field knife for both combat and civilian sporting applications. This stout pattern evolved with American fighting men from the Civil War rifle knife, with a design that is purely American. The Ek #5 is precision-made from a solid bar of high carbon stainless steel with a heavy brass blade guard. It is well-balanced in the hand and razor sharp. The extended pommel can be used for prying tasks. This multi-purpose tool will give you a lifetime of loyal service. The handle features the Ek paracord which is 18' of midnight black 550 lb. tensile strength parachute cord wrapped tightly over the full tang. With heavy duty nylon web sheath that is lock stitched and fitted with rivets for extra strength. A heavy steel D ring on the end of the sheath enables it to be tied to the leg for extra security or to equipment as needed.
