The Canadian Papal Zouaves are a group of soldiers who went to Italy to defend the Pope during the wars of Italian unification. Founded in 1867, it took until 1870 to see the first Canadian soldiers land in Europe . The Association of Canadian Pontifical Zouaves took several forms until its disappearance in 1993.
Today, only one company in Quebec is still active, number 27 in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield
