Originating from Bradford, Pennsylvania, the Zippo lighter, to this day, is considered one of the best
designs ever made. Produced by George G. Blaisdell for the first time in 1933, Zippo has become a
household name, and a classic item for collectors.
Why do people collect? Well, there are many reasons why someone might collect, whether it be
because of the item’s desirability or a personal significance. Most often it’s the pride we feel when we
acquire something exquisite, and the excitement we feel when searching for it. For many collectors it’s
not only about the item they collect, and its potential rareness, but about being to find it at a modest
price.
As with most collectibles, the date of the item often affects its value, and for Zippo lighters, you can find
all that much needed information on the bottom. This historic photo displays the different “Zippo”
logos from the first production year until 2011, and while date codes
have become invaluable to collectors—the “Zippo” logo is one clue to its
value.
What started as a product created for soldiers in the Army, has since then
expanded into companies, becoming a worldwide marketing and
promotional tool, and just like the logos, the colours and style variations
have changed to.
At Hero’s we have a wide selection of Zippo lighters, in a variety of styles
as well. Also built to be windproof, the hinged lid has surpassed expectations with its consistent and
well-built system, and you really can’t just have one! Did I mention Zippos are also great for doing
lighter tricks? It’s system is not only functional in any type of weather, but allows for different tricks to
